Cannock Chase is the home of Mountain Bike Adventures. There are two marked routes that are easy to follow, the red route or Follow The Dog is a 7k single track route , much of it through forest which can be very narrow and dark, there are some very muddy sections, a North Shore and planks, open hillside with some fast downhill sections, for those who need refreshment Brindley Heath Visitors Centre is about half way on this route. Those who are of average fitness should allow 1 hour for the complete route.
The green route is made up of 3 sections. The first is a family ride around some sculptures and should be O.K for most riders, beginners and small children. The second loops around Fairoak Pools and other than a couple of hills is a pleasant family ride with no roads to cross. The third takes in Sherbrook Valley , Seven Springs and the climb back up Abraham’s Valley a reasonable level of fitness is required to ride this route.
There are also many other Forestry Tracks and Bridleways that can be enjoyed but please remember there is no Open Access on the Common Land, that the Chase is used by Horse Riders and Ramblers so please be courteous.
Visit the Commonwealth Graves and German War Graves, also Brocton Ancient Woodland and the Glacial Boulder , get high to see the views, it is said there is nothing higher than Cannock Chase if you look east, until the Russian Steps.
This is a mountain bikers paradise with National Trust Property Shugborough on the door step.
